Kilimanjaro Safari

Greetings and Happy New Year!

Last week, my mom took my son and I on an awesome trip to Disney World for about eight days. My son is three and a half so he's the perfect age for all the magic the parks bring - I may or may not have cried at his reaction when he met Mickey! Anyway, we spent the first couple days at Animal Kingdom and I brought my camera because I knew my mom got us fast passes to the Kilimanjaro Safari ride. I was stoked to photograph some animals but didn't get quite as many pictures as I'd hoped because the driver was NUTS - way more rough than they are really supposed to be, hence why the photos aren't perfectly clear and why there aren't a ton of them. Seriously, as soon as there was a good photo op, he jerked forward and the picture I took either didn't come out at all or it wasn't in focus. It was just a little frustrating! So just now as I was going through all the pictures, I decided to do something different and put all of them in black and white.

I actually really love putting pictures in black and white, even though I don't generally do it with animal pictures and wasn't my original intention when taking these pictures. It adds a level of drama to the whole photo which can really elevate a picture. It also sometimes fixes funky shadows that can be created with natural light, which is great when you don't want to spend hours correcting photos that you just took for fun! So while there were some lovely earth tones in these pictures, I wanted to give them a different element, fix the funky shadows, and remove the color. I did put one photo in color, though. The ONE time we came to a complete stop was right in front of a flock of flamingos, so I snapped a pic and of course I couldn't take the color out of that one! Plus having just the one photo in color adds some fun contrast to the album as a whole. The full album (including the flamingo pic!) is over on the Collections tab - check it out!
